Power liftgate grinding W166 ML350 Bluetech

Good day all,

I’ve got an issue with my liftgate, wondering if someone can provide some input. I recently had my rear windshield replaced and since then, My power liftgate is not working.

I click the button, there is a loud grinding noise, but the gate won’t open. I can pull it open and push it closed, but it’s extremely stiff.

So it sounds like the system is trying to catch onto a gear or something but keeps slipping.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Definitely sounds like a stripped-out strut. I can only imagine what that'll run you....

I've got the same problem with my ML350 Bluetec. Whirring noise but either no liftgate movement, or it's erratic (occasionally partly works). Agree it sounds like some gearing is off. If it was only the strut, that would seem like a relatively easy/inexpensive fix.
