Push start temperamental - 2014 ML350 BlueTec
My push start has been a bit temperamental lately. I'll push it, and it acts like it wants to start, with the dials all spinning up the way they normally do, and accessories come on but the engine doesn't fire. I can ALWAYS tell when I'm going to have a problem because the brake pedal isn't soft at all and doesn't move when I put my foot on it before attempting push start. I can pop the start button off, insert the key and it starts just fine.
Anyone else have this issue? If so, how was it fixed?
Thanks!

That doesn't sound like an issue with the push button start - it sounds like an issue with the brake pedal / parking brake. The car will not attempt to start without the brake pedal being depressed, so if it doesn't think that it is then it won't fire up. Next time when you feel the hard brake pedal (i.e when you can tell that it won't start with the button), do NOT let go of the brake pedal... pull the push button out and attempt to start it with the key, but I suspect that it also won't fire up.

I've experienced this as well on occasion, but I think usually another push or two on the brake pedal will get it to free up and startup.

Mine started doing that a few months ago. I wondered if the starting battery was going. I changed the battery in the ML and it has not done it since.
