2012 ML350 battery tender hook up

I usually go on vacation once a year for a month. I would like to know some ideas on how to hook up the battery tender to the battery since it’s inside below the passenger seat? I have the deltran 12v battery charger/maintainer bought from Costco but then how do I keep the tender hooked up to the power source? Don’t I have to keep the door open? I would have liked something like a harness through the hood (just like I’m a motorcycle) so it could be hooked to the tender. What’s the point in purchasing the OE ctek trickle charger paying so much? What’s the best way to keep the battery maintain the charge when you are away?

Open your hood. On the passenger side close to the firewall you'll see a red plastic tab. Slide it forward and you'll see a terminal. Hook the red lead to that and the black lead to a bare lug bolted horizontally to the passenger fender about 6-8" further towards the front of the truck.

I doubt you have a light for the engine compartment, so you can either leave the hood wide open or close it gently, just enough that the latch doesn't engage.
