Cracked windshield?????

Caught a rock on the freeway and now I have a deep crack that cannot be fixed on my 2015 ml350. Windshield needs to be replaced but Progressive will only cover $800 minus my $500 deductible. The dealership quoted me $2,050. Progressive wants me to put an aftermarket windshield on my Mercedes that I have literally only had for 3 months lol. The dealership told me that if I put an aftermarket windshield on my car it will void the warranty for all of my sensors on/near the windshield. Besides, even if I go with the aftermarket windshield Progressive told me that I will still have to take my car to the dealership to get the sensors recalibrated, pay out of pocket, then wait 7-10 business days to be reimbursed from Progressive. I honestly do not know what to do. I've heard conflicting things about aftermarket windshields. Some people say there is a huge difference in quality and some people say they're literally the exact same windshield made by the exact same manufacturer just one doesn't have the Mercedes sticker on it. Also, doesn't the dealership sometimes outsource their labor to mobile glass repair shops anyways? Should I go with one of those and order the Mercedes glass and save some money? Got a quote from Safelite for $1,255. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would go with OEM glass and try to find an indy shop in your area to make the arrangement.........if you don't have any indy shop having the dealer do it may be the only sensible option to retain the warranty for all the electronics in and on the glass. GL!

Ask Safelite if they can use OEM windshield. When my CLA windshield got replace, they work with insurance company and put OEM in.
Insurance company approved aftermarket first, and then approved OEM after Safelite talked to them.
It was about $1K cheaper than dealer's quote.
I cannot speak for the sensors because my CLA doesn't have any sensor except the rain sensor.

Same here. Got windshield cracked on second or third week. Was on the way from the dealer with new license plates. Was so mad.

Called dealer and they told me they don't do install they told me approved MB company.

Called insurance company, they asked what company I like to use and this one was their approved one.
OEM windshield was installed and covered by insurance -500$ deductible. I believe price was 1300.

After install you need to take it a dealer for camera calibration 160$ had to pay to the dealer but insurance company have send me a check after I submitted the claim no questions asked.

In the glass there are connections for defroster, and maybe some more and its probably insulate sounds better.

Was very simple process for me.

Wish you luck.

You don't think that Safelite will be able to reconnect all of the sensors recalibrate everything themselves?

Reconnect for sure, calibrate not so sure, I believe it need some kind of special hardware and probably STAR diag tool but I could be wrong.

I got a crack in my widshield on my '13ML 350. My insurance covered it totally which, I think is required in FL. Went with the non OEM as they offered a lifetime warranty. Guy came and installed it at my home in about an hour. Asked him about the need for recalibration of the sensors and he told me he was not touching the sensors and never sees a need for recalibration. Camera, light, and rain sensors work same as before. Windshield quality is same.
