2014 ML 350 4Matic Extended Warranty covers oil leak repair but not oil change
2014 ML 350 4Matic CPO with the extended warranty.
09/17/2018
I brought it to the dealer on 09/17/2018. They could not figure out the leak source. Added oil leak detection dye and told me to drive it for a month.
CLIENT STATES ANOTHER SHOP HAS ADVISED CLIENT OF AN OIL LEAK AT THE REAR OF ENGINE ABOVE THE OIL PAN. PLEASE ADVISE. Cause: DURING INSPECTION FOUND OIL LEAKING AROUND OIL PAN AND TRANSMISSION BELL HOUSING Correction: CLEANED AREA AND ADDED OIL LEAK DETECTION DYE. ADVISE CUSTOMER TO BRING VEHICLE BACK AFTER 1000 MILES OR 1 MONTH OF DRIVING. AND REINSPECT VEHICLE TO PIN POINT WHERE LEAK IS COMING FROM.

It still leaks. I brought it back today on 10/16/2018. The service adviser called me back, said they found the cause, will change the bottom of the oil pan, the engine bank, the seals, will do almost $3,000 dollars of repairs paid for by the Extended Warranty, but need my assistance with paying for the oil change and filter change, which is $180.00 and the extended warranty does not cover that.
What sucks is that I just had the oil and filter changed 45 days ago, and drove less than 1,000 miles since.
Do you guys think that sounds right? They are taking the engine apart and have to drain the oil and the Extended warranty covers that but does not cover putting new oil in or putting a new filter in?

My suggestion - politely tell the Service Advisor that you feel it should be included in the no charge repair under warranty - and tell the Service Adviser you will need to call Mercedes Customer Care for clarification/complaint if they don't agree...

Just a guess here, but did you get your oil change done by an Indie? If so, your Dealer is probably trying to make a point! Stupid point on his part but some dealers are like that.... if they get all your business, they would probably 'bend' on the oil change. If they are not receiving your full business, perhaps just the warranty work, then.... Yes, another way to pony up their tab! Not very business bright, but, they are out there...

Thanks guys. I will try and if they decline, maybe I compromise with them and offer to pay for parts only, around $90. Since they are doing all the engine work I think that's fair.

C'mon bro. $3k of repairs at no charge and a charge for oil and filter are an issue? I've never seen a warranty which covered fluids, it's in the fine print.
Count your lucky stars that you have warranty coverage, grin and bear it *wink*

How many miles are on this vehicle? I have a 2014 ML350 gas version as well. Are oil leaks in these things common?

This is probably going to come as a complete shock to peter -- but for the first time, I am in complete agreement with him. As he said, warranty doesn't cover fluids, and just because you chose to do the last fluid change on your own (through an indie), it doesn't make MB responsible for it. Pony up the couple of hundred bucks and stop whining.
