2012 ML350 - Blower problem - "No signal from resistor"

I'm trying to troubleshoot the blower fan not working in my 2012 ML350. When the problem started, it would go in and out, then it finally went out for good. I got a new motor and resistor and replaced it but it still won't work. The code says "No signal from resistor". I saw another post where the problem was a faulty connector pin to the resistor. My mechanic says that's not the problem. He spent 2 days trying to figure it out and couldn't. He says the following:

- The blower (both old one and new one) works/spins when jumped
- Wire to the resistor has power and correct voltage.
- fuse is good.
- seems to think its a code issue that he can't reset.
- code says "No signal from resistor"

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

If it is the resistor, it would mean that it is bad on both the old blower and the new blower (new blower came with a resistor), so I doubt that it is. I did get it out of a salvaged vehicle so it is possible. I'll have to check that next... thanks
