2015 ML400 oil capacity wrong .... ??
I decided to change the oil from my 2015 ML400.
Manual calls for 7.4 quarts. I already have 8 quarts added and it's barely above minimum.
Am I missing something here?

Check the level by removing the stick, wiping it down and then very slowly reinserting it when you get to the handle. A guy with a BT had the same issue.

For all of the precision Mercedes is known for ... with engine and oil specs going out to 3 decimal places (i.e. engin 276.820, etc.), you would think they would know how much oil their engines require!
My manual - page 452 lists capacity at 7.4 quarts.
Other MLB references has it at 6.5 quarts. How can it be so far off?

How did this turn out? I have an ML400 as well and trying to find out the oil capacity. Also saw 7.4 and 6.5 so came here for more insight.

Not sure of the right wording but MBs oil pans work with a Vacuum(maybe emissions BS) but remove dip stick, give time for oil to resettle and check again. Obviously changing a filter will require more

What does the owner manual say? But since this is a European vehicle, I converted both 7.4QT to 7.0L and 6.5QT to 6.15L. Given the amounts in Liters, I can tell you that 7.0L is the correct figure, there is no reason for any European Vehicle to use an odd-ball amount of 6.15L. My ML 350 Bluetec uses 8L/8.48Q. Most Eurospec oil is sold in Liters anyways, so do yourself a favour and just buy your oil in Liters instead of messing around with oil sold it QTs and then having to split the bottle.....just my 2cents worth.

Did you put the drain plug back in place?
Did you put the drain plug back in place? Takes 7.4q with filter change. 7 without filter. Done many times.
