@GLK Super Fan smell like a diesel is fine. I've been around other diesels and sure they smell different, stronger than a gasoline car, but what im smelling with mine and what some others have also complained after a delete is more than just regular diesel car smell. It's stronger and most people relate it to a pungent ammonia smell. Would you say what you smell with your car after the delete is a much stronger smell than you had before the delete, or would you say its about the same as before the delete or only a little bit stronger?

Only a little bit of ammonia smell before delete. After delete, it just have diesel smell. It should not have ammonia smell unless you did not disconnect the connection from your adblue tank to exhaust system.

with the buzzken exhaust and DOC Cat there are no connections visible on the pipe after the delete, maybe there is something further up the exhaust system closer to the engine that i can't see from under the car. After the delete was done i did end up disconnecting 2 things, one was the EGR valve at the back of the engine. The other was on the passenger side near the spare wheel and near the aux battery, but reachable from the spare wheel area to disconnect (unlike the aux battery). I dont believe there was anything else to disconnect.

Maybe we're just describing the diesel smell differently. It does sound like its more hardware rather than software that's causing the smell. Maybe different tunes can bring small improvements, somehow i doubt it would bring a significant improvement to the smell (TBH I dont know enough about tunes though :/ )

i have a very slight ammonia smell, not diesel. And the earlier statement is correct, I did NOT have the SCR bypassed. I followed the recommendations of the shop that did the work. Pretty sure that babukb2 may smell diesel due to the performance ECM mods. I only wanted to be rid of the DPF/EGR/DEF.

I recently updated the tune on my glk 250, now no more smoke and the smell is a lot less. I am gonna bring my ml to update the tune as well, and report it back in here. I do believe the smell is due to unburned fuel... On terms of power, i feel the power was slightly less with the updated tune

please do provide an update on the ML regarding smell, smoke, and power after the tune adjustment. im really interested if it gets rid of or lessens the smell and I may try different tunes if it does for you.

I have a 2007 OM642 E320 Bluetec. I did a full DPF/EGR delete and will say that the car is stinky stinky. I don't really care, I grew up with 300SDs, so it's about the same and an absolute rocket. I am now in the market for a used OM642 W166 as a utility vehicle, so I've been following this thread with interest. Is the calgary based ecuprogram still the consensus as the best tuner? I used a different company out of the US and am mostly happy, although it certainly isn't as toned down and smooth as it was from the factory.

TBH i have no idea who the "best" tuner would be. I went with Malone tuning because a shop fairly close to me was using their tune and able to do the full delete with buzzken exhaust. it saved me a further drive and if i ever ran into any issues (which i did at first) the shop was close by.

the other one i was considering was JR Auto Tuning, those 2 i think were the only ones that were within driving distance vs me shipping my ECU to someone. There is the Calgary place GLK Super Fan used, and im sure there are more US based tunes also, maybe even more in Canada that I'm not aware of.

Anytime you get an ECU tune, it's a good idea to get a before and after dyno. Lots of snake oil salesmen out there who will way over promise and under deliver.

No need to get ECU tune. I was there to fix my smoke issues and update the tune. I am still happy with the power of my vehicle

Tune update

Finally got my tune updated. I didn't take too much pictures and I will try my best to explain what happened today.

When i got to the tuning shop, Alex moved the vehicle in for me and check for the CEL. I have a CEL that I cannot get rid of. Here is my CEL

This is one of my old picture in my build thread, i actually don't have the 2nd code this time. I was able to solve it by change it my fuel filter. So I only have the first code.

Check out the file i upload, it a pdf file that explain for my CEL that the dealer has to disable

So Alex helped me code the vehicle and I got the latest stage 2 tune. After the tune, the smoke problem still exist, so Alex helped me to calibrate the fuel injectors again. This time it solved the problem. Sam suspected that my one and four fuel injector are plugged, that why it caused the smoke issues. he recommend some fuel injector cleaner from LM pro series. I am gonna get some from FCP euro and test it out. meanwhile, the car is running perfectly fine now. Minimum of smoke and only little bit diesel smell. In terms of power, it was like before, the new tune is more refine, little more smooth.

ML 350 SRC/DPF Delete

Can you get something like this done in the US?

That is right, for the price of $1,699 plus labor and parts(approximately $2,500), you can have your ML350 push with 330HP and 530 TQ This is my first time posting in the ML forum section but I am not new I had a great success on my GLK DPF delete and always being a active member. How I call myself had a great success with the GLK DPF delete? what if I tell you I can achieve 4.8L/100km (49mpg) and probably better mpg with my GLK since I had changed with few things. If you want to know more, come check out my post in the GLK forum.
Not legally. And good luck finding a shop to do the delete: they don't want the EPA fines that come with getting caught. Your best bet is to be a welder and send your ecu to Canada.

Hello,

I know its an older thread. I am curious to find out more about this tune. Every tuner out there claim 275hp this is the only tuner Ive seen that claims he can get 330hp with a stage 2. Ive been searching online and I could not find a lot of information/videos of ML350s tuned and deleted.
I would appreciate links to videos/dyno results that prove he can tune it up to 330hp.
How is your ML holding up?

Thank you!
