Check Additive Message Help

I’m getting the “Check Additive” message on every start. Came up after I took it to the local Mercedes dealer for an A service. I explicitly told them to not top of the Adblue but when I picked it up he said they filled it up but wasn’t going to charge me for it. Thought that was nice but next morning the message came up. I’ve never filled the tank all the way to max until they did. Fast forward to yesterday, took into my local Indy mechanic and he said after hooking it up to the computer it is saying there is 10 L in there and he even added some but the number didn’t change. He recommended I take it to the local dealer to get the software updated as the 2012’s has an issue with this or he thinks the float is stuck. Leaning towards the latter but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue.

Sorry for of topic question, but what is disadvantage to fill tank all the way?
I have 2014 BT and always fill AdBlue till I see it.

I read it long time ago, suggestion was to keep it full as much as possible, minimize air and room for AdBlue "flowers" inside and maybe less corrosion.

I’ve never fully topped it off. Normally only add 2.5 gallons when I got the message. Never had an issue until the dealer completely filled the tank.

What is the reason to not fill the AdBlue tank to the brim? I ran a TDI Touareg for 8 years and 238k miles and always filled the DEF tank to the brim. Never had a problem related to fill level. Lots of other problems (mainly NOx sensors and DPF related).

I fill my '14 up till it overflows. 120K miles.
