Wheel Offset Question

I have searched on here and what I believe I found is for 255/50/19 tires, you should go with something between a 50 and 56 offset for the load. A lot of wheel providers say something like a 40 to 45 offset will work, but I believe that's for a sedan application and not an SUV. We have brand new tires on my wife's 14 ML350 on stock wheels so I wanted to just get some different 19's that will fit them.

For fitment and generally visual guidance I use https://www.willtheyfit.com/ to get an idea about how the wheel will work and look on the car. To be sure that the wheel has adequate capacity to carry the weight of the vehicle, I would look at wheels which are OEM or designed for it. Also consider the change in suspension geometry with the new wheels (width and offset) and their effect on tire wear. Generally, I'd want to have a close match to the original setup to avoid uneven or undesired/unexpected wear of the new tires.

Just saying, me personally don't believe the oem setup are the best. It really depends on where you live and what you use the vehicle for. I have 18 inch mine with 40 offset. Runs perfectly. No issues whatsoever

The roads are fairly decent in Northwestern Washington where I am so I am not too worried. I was mainly worried about the load as it being a SUV. I would assume anything between 45 to 56 for 19's would be fine

The offset of the wheel has nothing to do with the load bearing ability. If you are looking for aftermarket wheels, you need to find wheels from a reputable manufacturer designed for a heavy SUV which will have the proper load bearing ability, regardless of the offset.

My OZ Versilas are 20x9.5 ET40 and shod with 265/45-20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires. They sit perfectly flush with the fenders and are wearing evenly, just like the previous set of Continentals did.

Thank you for this! I'll keep all that in mind.

Indeed, I didnt intend to make it sound otherwise. Apologies for the confusion, if any.
