Ml w166 reverse camera retrofit
Hi there
does anybody know if it’s possible to retrofit a reverse camera to my Mercedes ml 350 bluetec 2013(63)through the original oem screen?
ive been searching through multiple YouTube videos/google and unable to find

Well here's the thing, You can add one because there are companies that make them, but the infotainment system wont show it when you put into reverse (as it does with the P1 package). You will have a separate screen that will show when your backing up.
Second option is to completely retrofit the infotainment screen, and many users have done that here and that will probably include a reverse screen when you put it into reverse.

cheers for the update. Unfortunately my ML doesn’t have it, it has nav etc just not the rear camera. By upgrading the screen do you mean to the android system? Also in regards to the original screen, would it not be possible to wire one in then the get the data card changed at Mercedes and have it coded in with the star machine?

Are you sure your truck doesn't have it and it just isn't disabled? I've never seen a true basic betty w166 with no reverse cam. Not to be insulting, but you did look in the back to see if there's one there or not, no?

There was a user a long time ago that posted about this issue of adding a reverse camera, but this user was in europe. It seems very involved to get the part number, hook it up, and re-program command to activate it no?

The super base model doesnt have it. Before i went with the E class that i had before the ML i saw a low mileage CPO ML, but it didnt have anything, not even the navigation. These models exist, unfortunately.

I was the same I was convinced it should have it. The vehicle is top spec with a lot of additional extras however just does not have a reverse camera for some reason. I work for Mercedes on the truck side so I have access to all behind scenes info and even checked the data card but for some reason the reverse camera was not an selected option on the vehicle
The thing is, A-LOT of people buy their cars without knowing what to look for, in no particular order is what people want to put inside their vehicles after purchase:
a) The halogen lights to HID or the ILS system (Very hard to do)
b) Logic-7 surround system
c) Ambient lighting
d) Distronic Plus
e) Parktronic and, or surround-view camera
f) Keyless-Go
g)Heated-cooled cup holder and/or Ventilated seats
People start here and after they purchase they have to realize unless you have the time and energy, retrofitting is not easy. People want similar to the P3 package, and its out there but just have to be willing to go to where the car is.

Understood, not trying to make an assumption.. Well anyways it's the luck of the draw. I would go with what @we47b1me mentioned and rewire and reprogram then.
