W166 Radar Sensor

Hi fellas,
Hope you are getting ready for a nice and for sure better 2021
I searched trying to get some info, unable to find the answers.

Got an w166 350 bluetec with a radar sensor only. No distronic or what so but just the sensor showing I am getting closer to the vehicle in front of me.

Yesterday night they tried to take of off stealing the part but I guess something made them scared

I am thinking couple of options here.

1. Totally remove the sensor
2. Talk to a place where they are securing distronic of audi cárstico see if they can do something to prevent what actually didn’t happen - to steal it.
3. Add some glue on the corners in a way if they take it off they’ll break it all

On point 1, I spoke to the local dealership but they want me to request this in written with the chassis number and so on, which is the right approach, in order to tell me what they can do. I specifically asked if they can remove this with a software.

On point 2, it’s NY Eve earliest Jan 4th will be able to talk to someone about this in a service which doesn’t work now.

Point three is me being creative cause insurance here will not pay a missing part in case there are no pieces of it left to prove it was a hazard removal.

Does any of you know if I remove the part, unclicking it from the fuse, will this make my dash looking like a Christmas tree? Will the vehicle go into a security / any kind of mode?

Is there a normal way to take off the sensor and drive without it?

Might sound crazy or silly to you but I don’t care a lot if I have this or not, but I am against staying and doing nothing in this case where I’ll potentially lose part / money and will get damage on my suv.

Have a great 2021 and thanks a lot!

I don’t have the answer to your dilemma but I see they can be picked up used from eBay in uk for circa £140 - not the most expensive part compared to some. So if me perhaps I’d leave it and hope they don’t come back? FYI there is a video online from a Romanian who is replacing one which makes it look like it’s just plug and play.
.
im sure the dash lights will have something to say if it’s missing... isn’t it part of the pre safe system as well? I’m struggling with another pre safe issue and was told it would not pass the annual gov MOT check here in UK if that safety system was compromised. Can you maybe zip tie the front grill cover on? The extra effort they would have deal with when taking it may put them off it it takes longer? ....

Hey Weeve, yeah saw this one on the YouTube as well. Not sure what’s the impact on the dash though. Some Korean cars are taking the removal as crash sign and it becomes a mess.

Additional zip to the grill is a good idea. I will check on Monday some guys and see what they will offer. I figured out no matter I putted a piece of hard paper on this and sticker it, it’s still working.

And now that I think of it - there might be a second one on the drivers side ...

I am accepting any kind of ideas how to secure this things now hahah made me crazy someone tries to takes things which he never paid for .....

Thanks for the idea in the grill, any other suggestion from anyone else?

Cheers, guys

So now it’s blocked with an alarm and also the radar itself is built in thanks to a specific glue, which converts into a rock solid stone
In another words - you either need a good amount of time to take it off or you will brake it
Hopefully is mission complete and won’t be touched

Between. Saw the same grill with the specific distronic eye on it, which was very surprising to me - thought it’s only in the badge though
