Auxiliary water pump

The next aux water pump will be the 4th. The Bosch pump only lasts 4 days and then it stops. When it stops, the heat goes cold. My shop keeps sending the part back and and new ones will not last. They swear the part is bad right out of the box. Does anyone have suggestions?

This part is a crutch and a band aid, unfortunately. It's one of many MB engineering shortfalls. Sorry those comments don't help your situation.

I would buy the part from the MB dealer. Yes, much higher price but you know it's as close to factory original as possible.

Is it possible to by-pass the aux pump?

I'm not aware of such a solution, and haven't seen it written about on this site. The stated reason for the circulation pump is for heater performance and engine cooling at low engine speed (sitting in traffic), which suggests the main water pump is sized to deliver flow rate at mid- to high-engine speeds, and has insufficient flow at low rpm to meet the needs of the vehicle. Also, if you have the "REST" function in your climate control system, the circulation pump also is required to circulate warm coolant to heat the cabin with the engine turned off.

In summary, no. To the best of my knowledge.
