Have all the parts to replace the air suspension on my 2013 ml350 4matic. Have the car on a lift, have all the bolts loose but can’t get the bottom of the shock over the rubber boot despite pulling down on the bar freed from the upper control arm. Any hints, suggestions
I just did my ML550 Airmatic last year with no issues...have you taken off the top nuts from inside of car? I think I just pulled the top loose after removing the interior nuts, pulled it down, freed top and then pulled bottom out.hardeat part of whole job was getting to the top nuts.
The answer was a pry bar to help lower the lower control arm then the fork of the shock would fit over the 4matic boot cover. It was a 2 person job. There are no you tube videos found that showed this technique.
For air suspension all you need to do is deflate the air spring (I'd recommend you do it by Star/Xentry, but removing the hose also works) and then the air spring can be compressed enough so you have clearance to remove it. I did mine a few months ago but mine is coil spring so I had to remove the drive axles to remove the struts.
