Module Problems

I have a 2015 ML350 with 210,000 miles on it. About 6 months ago, I started it and got every warning light and in-op message known to man. Along with this the engine fan kicked onto its highest speed even though the temperature as moderate. But the best part was that it wouldn't go into gear. Had it towed to the independent MB place I use. It was diagnosed as a bad Steering Control Module, which they replaced for around $1,100.

A couple of weeks ago, same scenario. Back on the tow truck. Was diagnosed as the same thing and was covered under warranty.

Last week same thing, same scenario. Back on the tow truck. This time it was diagnosed as the HVAC controller, which they replaced for $1,000. Picked it up two days ago and on the way home, all the lights and warning messages came on just very briefly and shut off. Drove it back to the garage. They thought it may just be the new module, but it should be okay.

This afternoon, I go to run an errand, and again, warning lights and in-op messages, can't shift into gear. But this time, we have the added feature of the A/C fan running intermittently even though the key is not in the car. Runs for about 15 second, shuts off and repeats. Scheduled for the tow truck in the morning.

Anyone have similar problems? Was told that all the different modules in the car have to talk to each other and if one goes, it shuts down the operation of the car. How many more of these are there? Also, any suggestions appreciated.

How old are batteries? (both of them). And do you ever scan the car when this happens before taking it straight back to mechanic and opening your checkbook?

Is this vehicle a W166 or W164? The myriad electrical problems you are experiencing are reminiscent of the W164 well known taillamp gasket leaking syndrome, allowing water infiltration into electrical modules.
