Aux battery

Im having the shocks and struts replaced on my 2015 ML 350 that has over 75,000 miles and though since the rear cargo area was being removed it would be an ideal time to replace the Aux battery. I went to Battery plus , they did not have on in stock but they sold me one that they said would fit. I just removed the rear panels and notice the battery is very small, not like the one sold to me by Battery plus. The one they sold me looks like one that fits a motor cycle or lawn mower, its much larger.

I plan on trying to find the correct battery tomorrow since they have the car to replace the shocks and struts.

Sounds like you are crunched on time as you want to take advantage of the rear cargo area already coming out.

The replacement to do it yourself is not too bad.

There are 3 DIY options to replacing the battery:
- Easiest - Cut the carpet - Not a huge fan of this but make the replacement a 5-10 minute job -
- Recommended - Take a few screws and bolts from the rear panel and lift it just enough to get access to the battery -
- Longer and more involved process -

Be sure to check which battery you have as there are 2 different sizes: Small - N000000004039 or Big - A0009829608.

Bought 3 from FCP Euro at about $50 per battery all small batteries (Have 2 - W166 and 1 - X166 in the family, so replacing all of them at the same time)

THANKS MIKEY178. I am leaving the cargo area unassembled until I get the aux battery. I called FCP and they have one on the way for the price you quoted. I am taking the time to install the heavy sound mat in the rear area. Hoping it will turn the ML into a quiet Cadillac.

Wow, just watched those 3 videos. As a new ML owner I am flabbergasted at how hard they have made such a task! But anyway, just wanted to say thanks for putting that response together. I am sure it will come in very handy one day.

I just did the carpet method for my AUX battery change. I bought the new battery from FCP Euro as well. Surprisingly the old battery still registered 13.2 volts on my DVM, even though it's now 6 years old?! IMHO, just not worth the effort to preserve the piece of carpet since no one will see it.

I used Method 2 on the 2 ML's would say a max of 25 mins, super easy. I think the hardest part was getting the 10mm bolt back on the bracket that holds the battery.

Surprisingly, the GL was the most easiest, slight variation to the ML. It was literally just 1 clip and then pull back the spare wheel carpet on the side and then the 10mm bolt for the battery bracket. This one took 5-10 mins.

The old batteries which range from 7-9 years old read about 10V to 12V. 1 less thing to worry about for a while.

BTW, dealer in Canada wanted $146 CAD for 1 battery.
