I went to check on my catch can levels this week and found oil all over the vacuum pump. Has anyone ever had their vacuum pump gasket fail? I'm wondering if I can change just the seal and if this is a common issue? The truck has 217,000 km on it currently and is also leaking coolant from somewhere around the water pump which I'm also diagnosing. What is with this thing and not keeping its fluids in the actual engine?
My first failure on my ML Bluetec was at 98,000 miles, no leak but loud clanking noise. Replaced vacuum pump under extended warranty with new one so can’t comment on seal replacement. Now on second ever problem with oil filter housing started to leak. Was advised that just gasket replacing would not work long term -dealer services many Sprinters-so replaced entire housing-$225 I think from Dealer plus labor, replaced original belt at same time since it was removed anyway to get at bolts. Waited for oil change time for them to do it, lots of oil comes out the housing making big mess, they cleaned it as good as they could. Total price with tax and “supplies” $880 with club discount for those that would like to know.
