Brake assist

COLLIS.WARN. SYS. W/ ACTIVE BRAKE INTERV. FCW STOP. While looking at Mercedes YouTube video on this system I'm still a little confused how the system works. I have had the red triangle come on while entering a roadway without any traffic for miles. Other than that the system has not given me any warnings what so ever. The Mercedes video mentions speeds of 100kph and 200kph and that the system will activate if the driver does not apply peddle pressure. What am I missing here. Is the system based on speed and manual application of the brake peddle and only assists if the driver does not apply enough pressure to the brake?

From my experience, the Front Collision Warning monitors for situations where objects you are approaching may be impacted. I'm not sure of the technical parameters of how it works but my experience is below.

I've had the red triangle and audile warning when passing through intersections when in the left lane where there is a road sign or light post in the median. Does not apply the brakes or anything, just the red triangle illuminates and the audible warning to keep you alert.

For brake assist, I've found that to be a bit sensitive but at the same time understand the feature. If approaching a car that is stopped immediately in front of you, if you applied the brakes harder than usual and close enough, the red triangle illuminates, the audible sound is heard and the brakes are applied more abrupt or assisted braking to potentially prevent the collision. You can tell when the assisted braking kicks in.

I've had this happen 2 times in very similar situations (going about 50 kmh and 80 kmh), vehicle stops immediately in front, I applied the brakes but the distance in front was minimal but enough to stop but the front collision warning and brake assist saw otherwise and braked much harder than I expected. This was usually followed by an apology to the passengers.

I was on WIS today and thought I'd look into the brake assist/front collision warning system See attached which may provide some insight on the system and the operational function of it.
