What's the trick to putting the rear view mirror back on?

My wife somehow wrenched the rear view mirror off the mount on my ML350. I've pulled the plastic covers off the rain sensor and can see that nothing's broken. I see the 3 prongs of the steel clip that's supposed to snap onto the hexagon mount on the glass but haven't been able to figure out the trick to getting it to snap back into place.

Any suggestions?

The removal video gave a hint and I got it figured out. The hexagonal post that the mirror mounts on, 3 of the sides are just slightly smaller than the other 3. (Every other side, so big/small/big/small/etc.) Rotate the mirror 60 degrees to the left or right and it'll settle down over the post, then twist it to secure the 3 spring clips around the 3 big sides of the hexagon. You've gotta move the mirror post to an odd angle to get it twisted to the angle where it settles over the post.

All correct! Be careful not to hang while you rotate, try to apply slight pressure towards the windshield.

Rearview ML550

My rearview mirror came down and I'm unable to re-attach to the hexagon mount. The issue seems to be one of the three prongs on the clip seem to be chipped. I had a guy to look at it who claimed to know what he was doing but has destroyed my mirror. He took it down because as you know these mirror are heavy and while driving it was moving about wildly.
Upon removing it, he disassembled my entire mirror and now it's in pieces (green programmed brain boards are out) and the steel clip is missing. He claims to have left it in the vehicle w/the other pieces but it's not there.
I want to order a mirror that's compatible w/my vehicle and have seen several on Ebay that are compatible. My question is it possible to reprogram another mirror to my vehicle?
Thanks!
