What is the story with this car? How long have you owned it and what service work was done in the past 12 months?
Open the cam position sensor, cam magnets and ECU connectors. Are there signs of oil?

Car is maintained engine is super clean inside , I believe the the reluctor plate on left intake cam had slipped !
Who is the shop in California that’s welding the reluctor plates to the cams ? I have also heard of pinning the reluctor plates to cam sprockets !
Thus 2014 M350 276 with 138k Miles , it has the cold engine timing chain rattle which needs the check valve update on the head behind the tensioner for sure . The chain could be stretched . I have not put it on 40 degrees after tdc to verify the cams are in time ..
This such a tragedy for Mercedes , I have worked on them for 30 years and never seen them not use a key way or dial pin for cam timing .

No oil on harnesses and all sensors and magnets tested good ! You can clearly see the intake cam throws the plausible code P001885 and then the Ecm goes into default timing ! So with this I believe it’s the left intake cam reluctor wheel slippage ?
