Rear Suspension Woes

As I was swapping my winter tires on today I noticed that both of my rear springs are broken! Or at least that is how it seems, pics below:

Driver side, where the rubber cover has been torn you can see a distortion in the white line:

Decided to check the passenger side, and even though the rubber was not torn there was the same distortion in the line.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal? or are they in fact both broken?

My other question is, does this truck have the ability to use different sizes of spring pads? Where you can use a thicker or thinner pad to refine the ride height?

Lift the car up and put a pry bar between the coils where you think the break is. If you can cause undue motion, there's your answer.
I replaced all 4 springs withini a few months of each other on my '05 E320 because 3 of them broke. (150K miles ish) I think the spring steel is based on potato chips. It doesn't last.

Thats what I assumed, does anyone know if there are additional spring pads that can be used to refine the height? The truck needs shocks anyway and I've found the Bilstein B12 kit that comes with all 4 shocks and lowering springs. But I don't want to lower it by much.
