Best windshield sunshade for w166: MB Q-6-67-0054 or aftermarket?

Hello, new owner of a 2015 ML350. Living in a hot, sunny area. Need a sunshade. Especially with my black interior. Tried searching but could only find discussion of rear seat sun shades in w166. Sorry if I missed it.

Mercedes makes a sun shade with part number Q-6-67-0054. Here's the link to it on mbpartsource.com. I'd typically not think twice and go with the official MB product since it's only a few bucks more than similar aftermarket options but I note that the fitment states that it works for all other pre-facelift w166 (i.e. 2012-14) but not 2015.

I found it odd that it would fit 12-14 but not 15 since it was a year later in 2016 that the facelift and change from ML to GLE occurred. I tried their chat but they couldn't help and I can't return it unless I put in a compatible VIN number but I don't want to lie about my VIN and I don't want to mess around with returns if it won't fit so I figured I'd check here to see if anyone (1) had any experience with Q-6-67-0054 and (2) if anyone had any ideas about whether Q-6-67-0054 would work in a 2015 M-Class. Thanks in advance!

I can't imagine why it wouldn't fit any W166. The only real "major" change in the W166 model was renaming (ML > GLE and GL > GLS)

If they don't have a part # for a later model, this one will likely fit. I would verify that with the dealership.

Probably they added a rain sensor something minor and didn't want to redesign the shade so it became "incompatible".

I would try to find a 12-14 ML around (used car dealership, MB used car section, stop someone in a parking lot as they are getting in/out of their car, etc.) and take a look at the mirror base. If it's the same, you should be fine. I believe the windshields were all the same size and shape so don't see why it wouldn't fit!

bha1, thanks for the reply. I suspect you're right in thikning it had to do with some electronic thing sensor at the mirror base area. Will do some parking lot snooping.

I purchased a sunshade on Amazon for my 2015 ML400. It’s the SS-246 from Tuningpros. I’m very happy with the quality and fit.

I don't know where you are located, but any large / XL sized generic sunshade that here sells for ~$20 CAD at any Canadian Tire store works great on the ML. If you want to spend $50-60 USD by all means go ahead, but there's nothing special about them... it's just a sandwiched foil & bubble sunshade like any other.

Things may be smaller in Canada...
A large generic sunshade from Wal Mart does in fact not fit my ML.
Just say'n.

I just stumbled upon this thread... Yes, I have the MB foldable sunshade (part #: Q-6-67-0054) for the W166 models. Of course, it fits the 2015 MY ML 350 we have. I would say that the fit is quite snug/tight. Now, I'm not saying that the MB sunshade is necessarily better, but it's nothing like the typical foil and bubble foam aftermarket sunshades. The MB sunshade panels are unusually thick, rigid, and heavy. It is definitely the densest, heaviest sunshade I have ever come across. At first, I wondered whether it was made out of some sort of ballistic panels. LOL! The reflective side is a light silver gray, but the finish is actually somewhat matte. The dark side is covered in a thick felt-like material. It comes with a nylon drawstring bag for storage when the sunshade is folded.
