Looking for input on purchasing a high mileage M156

Hi there,

Quick background, I have had a Benz always, and love them. I have had an 07 C280, 08 ML320, 07 E320, 06 CLS55 IWC Edition, and currently driving a 16 E250.
I have also had a 3 Series and an Audi A6, but there is no doubt Mercedes tops them in almost every way.

I am tired of my 16 E250, its a good fuel efficient diesel that is a well all around daily that I have had now for 2 years. I dont like to hold on to a car for long and tend to switch it up. The CLS was an exception, i was planning on never getting rid of that beautiful car, but I was T-Boned and it was written off.

I am currently eyeballing an 09 CL63 AMG, I loved my M113k on the CLS55 (especially with the Stage 2 VRP kit), but I've always wanted an M156, nothing beats the sound of that car. I always had an eye out for the CL-Class, as its a Luxury Sport Coupe, Basically an S-Class with 2 doors. And the M156 is the icing on the cake.
Right now I have the option to get one off the Market for a good price, only concern is that it has more than 300,000km. The Carfax shows that it was always Benz Dealer serviced until 300,000km, and later at a private mechanic.

I have a good garage with all the tools you could possibly need to do repairs and maintenance on ramps. I also have the MB XENTRY Diagnostics, with coding software's to do any sort of diagnostics and adaptations to the car.
Does anyone here have a high Mileage M156 Engine that can share some feedback on what they have done to their car in the past and what to lookout for?
I am well aware of the Headbolts scare, if the Engine is running at that Mileage than I would assume they have been swapped. If not than that is something i am not afraid to do DIY, as long as the car makes it back home, it would be close to 3000km drive home.

If anyone has any insight and tips on what to look out for at such high mileage M156 or the 09 CL chassis, I would love to hear from you.

Personally I would worry more about the rest of the car than the motor. The CL was never a high volume seller and the overall age and issue of parts availability would be a concern for me. Youve got all kinds of things to worry about from ABC to the MCT transmission to some unique interior and exterior bits. And that's before we get into the electrical system, CAN bus, etc.

The M156 is a beast (wish I owned one) and would not worry me that much honestly.

There was a thread a couple months ago for W212 AMG mileage which you might find helpful, even though it’s not all M156. Personally, I’m at 110k miles with my 2010 E63. It’s in now because the plastic radiator finally gave up and I screwed up my back so I couldn’t do it myself. My issues other than typical maintenance issues are mainly oil leaks. Engine mounts. I’ve had no issue with cams and lifters but they seem relatively common, especially the variable timing wears. It’s a blast to drive though - worth the occasional hassle.
