Where is the Oil Level Sensor for replacement

On my 2004 SL600 (23,000 miles) I occasionally get a "Check Engine" code described as "Impossible oil level". I therefore bought a new sensor (# A0009056201) and oil for an oil change. I expected to see the sensor bolted into the bottom of the oil pan as is typical, but I don't see anything like it.
Do I need to remove the lower oil pan? (I.e is that where it is?) If yes, does anyone have the part number for the lower oil pan gasket?
Thank you.

EDIT: I bought and originally mentioned the wrong part number ((# A0009056201). The correct oil sensor part number for a M275 is 2759050000 and costs about $110 from various vendors.

As all evidence was that the oil level sensor is between the lower and upper oil pan, I removed it and there it was. Unfortunately I had bought the wrong sensor and therefore ordered the correct one overnight from FCPEuro.

Yes, the lower oil pan is a bit difficult to remove as it is factory glued with RTV. I used a metal gasket scrapper and pounded it in with a mallet to get it started. That did put a scratch into the upper oil pan, but the new RTV will easily seal that. I then sprayed the surfaces with gasket remover and used a rubber bristle disk on a drill to clean the surfaces.
