Preferred viscosity for M275?

I did some searching but didn’t find much discussion (I may be doing it wrong…) The maintenance book shows quite a range of acceptable viscosities… from 0W30 to 20W50. Plus from what I can tell this maintenance book is not M275 specific. I initially planned to run a 10W40 but might go thicker since it rarely gets under freezing where the car spends most of its time (FL).

just wondering if anyone has done used oil
analyses on what they are running, and at what intervals & usage. I plan to but it should be a while before I put enough miles on new oil to draw any conclusions.

edit #2: per this link, it looks like only 0W30 to 5W40 are 229.5?

Web search: The M275 engine requires a 5W-40 full-synthetic engine oil that meets Mercedes-Benz's 229.5 approval standard, although a 0W-40 full synthetic may also be used depending on specific model and ambient temperature conditions.

ECS tuning recommends their kit:

Appreciate that, and am planning on running 5W40 full synth. Odds are any API SP would be 'fine' but I did some more research and it seems a big part of the 229.5 spec is HTHS values and not all 5W40's make the cut...

BUT, M1 and Pennzoil Platinum Euro do and are readily available locally, already have a Mann filter kit for it, so will just go with that, and keep to 3-5k intervals, with perhaps a UOA since its an inexpensive way to monitor the wear. I was just weirded out by the breadth of visocsity in that non-model specific maintenance book.

I just go with the liquimoly leichtlauf 5w-40. I tried a bunch of oils in my CL55, and that oil resulted in the quietest valvetrain. That and Ceratec (every 3rd-4th change) is my preferred combo.

Might go ahead and run Liquimoly's engine flush through with the old oil before draining it.

FCPEuro is my go-to. They lifetime warranty everything excluding additives and sprays.

appreciate that advice, I actually got 4 qts of High Performance Lubricants EC40 ‘cleaner’ oil, IIRC it’s a gentle ester blend they advise running at 20% of sump capacity. Decent amount of info and support on BITOG forums and at least one guy with a S600 on there. Sounds like the M275 stays pretty clean with decent care.

I’ve got extensive service history on this car so it looks like it’s been maintained well, but have heard of dealerships not using 229.5 oil. After changing the oil I might do a ‘mid-run check’ and replace the filter, inspect the used one, and take a sample for oil analysis just to get an idea of what’s going on-just mostly to satisfy my curiosity.

odds are I won’t continue with that long term, and just opt for annual changes or every 5k miles, whichever comes first since even boutique oil is cheap compared to the alternative.

Look here: https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/sheet/223.2

229.5 Note 2 and Note 5
Note 2: Use only 0W-40 or 5W-40
Note 5: Recommended 0W-40

Some times ago in older variants there was a note AMG 0W-40 only, i guess.
