Description:
This is a very special car, well known to the members who frequent the R231 forum. I placed a factory order for this car and took delivery from Foothill Ranch MB in May of 2019. Since then, the car has covered only 2,692 VERY gentle miles, every one, driven by me. The car has been garaged every night and every day. There is not one nick, chip, scratch or imperfection anywhere, inside or out. The interior smells brand new. Never any food, coffee, pets, kids, smokers in the car. Never driven in the rain, never valet parked. Car has never been damaged or touched up, it is factory fresh in every way.
The exterior is Polar White, with the Ginger Beige/Espresso Brown Exclusive Nappa Leather interior. Unusual to an SL450, the car is equipped with the simply magnificent Active Body Control or "ABC" suspension. In addition, I had brand new, genuine AMG Ceramic Composite Brakes installed, along with brand new AMG Forged 19" polished aluminum wheels, that were originally optional on the SL65AMG. . These are very expensive upgrades. The brakes alone can cost over $25K. I also swapped out the run flat tires for Michelin A/S3+ tires. The brakes are truly magnificent and produce ZERO brake dust. Think about that for a minute: ZERO BRAKE DUST! The original brake components are included in this sale, as are the original Ginger Beige floor mats.
Why didn't I order an SL550? Well, I've had many V8 SL's and the SL450 has a twin turbo V6, with 369hp. With the 9-speed transmission, the car is very quick and very fast. However, the lighter weight of the V6 vs the V8, makes the 450 drive much lighter, sportier and more comfortable in my opinion. With the ABC option, the lighter unsprung weight of the ceramic brakes, the forged wheels and these great Michelin tires, this car drives and rides like a dream! I believe it rides better than any other SL on the planet!
The retractable hardtop is a marvel to behold and, unfortunately, is no longer available from MB. The 2020 models were the last to have this marvelous feature and the order books for 2020 models closed months ago. Bottom line is that this SL450, equipped as it is, is quite a rare car. You could look forever and never find it's equal. AND, this one is virtually brand new.
My price may sound high for an SL450, but this car could not be duplicated for substantially more. Why am I selling it? I am getting on in years and I just don't drive the car that much. It was fun ordering it and doing the upgrades, but now it's time to send it off to a new owner who will put some miles on it. Please feel free to PM me with any questions.
Before ordering the car, I drove an SL550 and the SL450, back to back. I was so impressed with the driving qualities of the lighter V6 model over the heavier V8, that I went for the 450. After taking delivery and giving it a 1,000 mile break-in period, I took the SL out to a wide open highway, to see how the car would react to some spirited throttle input. I WAS BLOWN AWAY by the acceleration of the car. I could not believe how quick the car was and I gave it a nickname of “Mighty Mouse.”
After putting the wheels & brakes on, I thought the car was so unique, that it needed a designation that was something beyond “SL450.“ Being a long time fan of the Ferrari models designated “MM” for the famous Italian “Mille Miglia” road race,” I decided to dub my car an “SL45MM,” with the “MM” really being the initials of that famous “Mighty Mouse.” It’s fun to see some other drivers doing a double take when they see the designation.
