This SL500 is a really immaculately well kept example of one of Mercedes most timeless designs. The R129 chassis in the SL500 and SL600’s blends gorgeous classic Mercedes looks, with the daily reliability and usability of any modern day car. The fuel-injected V8 motors used in this SL500 was used in the following models:

1998-2008 G 500
1999-2006 S 500
1999-2006 SL 500
2000-2006 CL 500
2001-2006 ML 500
2002-2006 CLK 500
2003-2006 E 500
2004-2006 CLS 500
2006-2007 R 500


And thus has a reputation of VERY stout robustness and reliability. Their parts are also very easy to find and most Mercedes technicians are familiar with any common issues they may have. The only real soft spot on the R129 is going to be it’s hydraulic cylinders for the convertible top. The mail cylinders on this model were just starting to show some weeping around the seals so we went ahead and had it replaced so that you don’t have to worry about that in the future (see service records). You can also see from the photos and video attached that the canvas top is in GREAT shape and operates flawlessly.

I’ve had a number of these R129 Mercedes and they’re a staple in ever-changing collection. No other car is as comfortable, versatile, and timelessly stylish for so little money. Mercedes really knocked it out of the park with this model and when this one sells, I’ll inevitably find myself on the hunt for another exceptionally well-cared for example to replace it with in short time.
