Description:

1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster R107.  Amazing original condition, with only 55,700 miles.  Bought it after much searching for my wife as a Christmas present.  But, she remains a Jag girl (and insists on airbags), so the 380SL hasn't been driven more than 100 miles since I bought it in October.   

Car was shipped from No. Carolina, where it spent its entire life.  Garage kept and pampered life.  Upon receipt, I had my mechanic check it out from tip to toe.  Gave it a tune-up, all new belts, and fluid.   Got her "smogged" for California compliance and she passed without a hitch.    

Windshield wipers replaced recently, but have original stainless steel that also comes with the car.  All rubber appears to be in fine condition, including on the top.

Had the upgraded brand new 560 wheels put on her along with brand new Yokohama tires which cost over $3500.  She is rust free and beautiful.
 
POWERTRAIN:

Our 380SL was powered by Mercedes-Benz’s M116 3,818cc SOHC V-8 and runs on Regular gas.  As noted above, she has been mechanically checked out and runs great.  Starts up without hesitation, idles smoothly and without smoke.  This is the first year they put the twin row timing chains on for reliability.   

Transmission shifts smoothly.   Engine bay is generally clean as photographs show.  On heavy braking, the car does pull slightly to the left.  My mechanic says it appears to be a sticking brake caliper (I did not address further as it doesn't seem significant).

EXTERIOR:
Body is perfect without any dents and no indication of any accidents on CarFax.  Paint is original, with no evidence of any repainting or patchwork, and it is beautiful.  She has classy delicate dark blue pinstripes on both sides.  There are a few nicks and minor spiderwebbing/checking on left side hood and front fender (you won't see it on the photographs as it is very fine).  I also put a scratch in middle behind top boot and there is some spotting on the right side in the area where the hardtop sits (I assume it hide the slight rise in paint where some condensation occurred...saw it once I took the hardtop off). 



Our 380Sl comes with both the original hard top (same color) and in excellent condition.  Perfect fit, all rubber in excellent condition.  Also has the cloth dark blue material soft top.  Tight fit and looks like new.  All windows clear and beautiful. 


All glass in perfect condition.  Underside of car looks totally rust free and in excellent condition.    

INTERIOR:
The seats in our 380SL are in excellent condition.  The driver side left bolster has a slight rise towards the bottom...but no tear or wear.  Seats are fully adjustable, but drivers distance slide is stiff to move back and forth.   

Carpets are prefect.  Cover mats are lighter in color and not actual fits for the SL, but look fine and protect the original carpet.   

Hardtop liner is in excellent condition, no sags, rips, tears, etc.... but white color is very very slights off color.  Rubber is great.  Rear top boot material has two small rips (one from me lifting hardtop off, and another with which it came and has been glued). are described as being in “outstanding,” damage-free condition, with full adjustability.

All interior trim in place and perfect.  Dash has some of the age cracks but remains in fine condition.  Considered one of those covers, but no reason at this point.   All gauges, buttons and dials in excellent condition.   Wood is perfect.   

After market radio installed and works with antenna.  Also has bluetooth for modern link up (dash not cut for fit, so original Becker can be put back in if desired).   

Car has climate control (works great, but not up to modern standards here in hot California).   Power windows work fine.   OEM first aid kit behind passenger seat.  With rear deck carpet again, perfect.  Trunk carpet is also perfect.

All gauges work as intended, except clock (which is correct twice a day).  

CHASSIS:
Our 380SL doesn't appear to have any issues in this department. 

DOCUMENTATION
She comes with original Mercedes owners manuals.

I am not a dealer and as noted above, searched for what I thought would be the prefect fun car for my wife.  She truly is an amazing, SOLID, classy car.  Carfax is clean. I already have my own SL, if my wife weren't' so set on a Jag (hmmmmm), our 380SL would also be staying.

I have tried my best to describe our 380SL honestly and in great detail.  I am happy to provide any further information that I can.  We welcome your inspection of the car.

Given her age, and despite our best efforts, it would be impossible to know or predict  everything about her.  Thus, I urge you to take a look in person, kick the tires, give her a spin, as she doesn't come with any express or implied warranties.  Hope she finds a great home.
