Description:

NOW LISTED ON PCARMARKET

2003 Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG black with graphite leather.  Odometer currently shows 48,000 miles, one of the lowest mile reasonable price CL’s available on the market today.  This was Mercedes Benz’ top of the line model; a Grand Touring car and considered their premier model.  The CL stands for Coupé Leicht (Coupé Light); 2003 was the first year for the hand built Supercharged M113K motor; one-man, one engine producing 493 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque.  This allows the car to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds and achieve a top speed limited to 155MPH.  It has a Mercedes Benz 5-speed automatic ‘SpeedShift’ 722.6 transmission featuring economy and sport and manual modes.  To slow things down it has 6-piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers in the rear; rotor size in the front is 14” and 13” in the rear.

The CL55 features a beautiful pillarless window design and incorporate the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology.  CL coupés received the following new technological features; it introduced the refined ABC (Active Body Control) fully active suspension along with incredibly bright Bi-Xenon HID headlights.

The following features were standard equipment: climate control, ABC (hydraulic) suspension, all-leather interior, designer wood trim, a trip computer, CD, navigation system, front heated seats, power moonroof, as well as power door and trunk closing assist.  This one also has front fan-cooled and heated seats.

All the above; but especially the ABC self-levelling suspension are the many reasons that Mr. Ed Bolian selected a Mercedes Benz CL55 for his cross-country run-in October of 2013 where he traveled across the US from NYC to LA in 28 hours and 50 minutes.

This car has never been modified in any way; it is as delivered.  No tint and no clear-bra.  Original window sticker included with records.  Sticker price in 2003 was $120,500.00. It has only two owners from new and a clean Carfax.  It’s been obsessively maintained by both owners.  I have the records and other information to confirm the services.

Regarding technology that went into this car when it was designed and built, here is what I know: The Coupe was based on the 98-05 Mercedes Benz S-Class (W220) but has an 8” shorter wheelbase.  Construction of the chassis was a uni-body type that was unique to the CL Class, constructed of a steel floor pan, chassis rails and A pillars with a bonded aluminum roof and rear wing sections, featuring magnesium door frames and composite plastic used for the boot/trunk and front wings.

The C215 exterior design and active suspension was previewed by the Mercedes Benz F200 concept in 1996.  All models seat four.  The exterior design produced a drag coefficient of 0.29 for AMG variant.  It is a beautiful and timeless design.  Please contact me directly with any questions.

This is truly a vehicle that you can set a coast-to-coast record in one day and take you mom to church in the next Sunday.

As for additional information, please contact me directly; I am happy to share all I know for interested parties.

Thanks @gblack32... I wanted to try BAT, but when I approached them on other cars/items, they either were not interested (08 V8 Vantage with 20K miles and a 73 XR75 - all original & mint) or they wanted to do it on their time line. I tried C&B over the weekend, and they wanted way to low of a reserve, I am all for charity and what-not, but giving away well maintained and rare vehicles is not at the top of my Christmas list this year. Hemmings is good for some things, but maybe not AMG's. Where do you have your advertised? Any thoughts on you end? If I go to Auto Tempest, it would be the cleanest 'reasonable-priced' low mile on available. What part of the US are you in? I am in the DFW area.

I don’t have it listed yet but the wife is getting on my case so probably will be shortly. I was also thinking this forum and autotempest. It’s a niche vehicle so I’m not exactly expecting a super quick sale.

Same here. I think they are waaaay under valued. I have had an E55, the big block E63 (08) and a 2012 E63 (12) and the M113K is by far the best. People just need to ride in one, and then they will get it. Trick is easy - just don't buy a 'problem' vehicle. You don't save $$$ buying a 10-15K example. Good luck-

Hi Tom_Boy,

I watched all your auction videos in detail, you are clearly the exact kind of seller any real enthusiast wants to buy from. PCarMarket just doesn't get anywhere near the traffic required to pull top dollar for something like this. The odds of two knowledgeable buyers for this car being "in the room" on that site when your auction ends are pretty low IMHO.

If I were you, I would throw it on Hemmings online, name your price and be very patient. I have owned/sold many special Mercedes, I usually have the best luck with Hemmings. AutoTrader is decent too, but you'll get a lot more low-value inquiries there (not serious or knowledgeable), which can ultimately be quite frustrating.

I am a similar type of owner to you, I have OCD and can't leave a car in an inferior state under my care. Anything and everything that can reasonably be improved or brought up to factory condition needs to be handled quickly and properly for me to be at ease. I always sell cars in substantially better condition than I buy them, and I don't exactly buy hoopties to begin with. I mention this not to brag, but so you can get a feel for my experience. I do believe that if you want to recoup most of your investment in the car's current condition (as you should), you really need a very specific and knowledgeable buyer. It's true that such buyers are on this site too, but they're often times only looking for a great deal here.

If you didn't notice, I was the 2nd highest bidder in your auction. I tried several times to post glowing reviews for your car because I thought it really deserved it. You clearly took exceptional care of the car and you put a lot of work into the presentation. PCarMarket blocked every one of my posts immediately under the guise of being irrelevant or not constructive. That couldn't be further from the truth, but you can't exactly call up and argue with an algorithm. Funny the site was still happy to take my money and let me bid though.

Anyways, I hope you don't find this post too opinionated or unhelpful. I am genuinely just trying to provide some hard earned insight. In case it needs to be stated, I have zero affiliation with Hemmings.

Best of luck with the sale, it looks like a fantastic example.

Thank you for the kind words...

I have used Hemmings many times in the past starting in the early 70's, but was not sure they still get much traction on the Benz's. I always did well with parts and early mustangs/real Shelby's, etc. Maybe I'll give them a look.

They stuck it on deal tank for what I thought was a deal, $24,500. At that price, someone will get a hell-of-a-deal... I'll let it ride there and see what happens.

looking for a similar condition 2009-2015 G550, but they don't come up often with low miles in decent color combo's.

Thank you for the kindness and courtesy!
