Description:

Selling my CLS55. I purchased it from a dealer in Las Vegas and the car has zero rust. Since purchasing the car, I have done the following:

New windshield
Rear bumper painted at dealer
New Bilstein coilovers with new Mercedes rear control arms and front upper and lower ball joints
Factory Bosch injectors
Spark plugs
Valve cover and breather gaskets
Supercharger and surge tank gaskets
Custom forged wheels and new tires (polished aluminum, not chrome)

The car drove fine until it developed a misfire that has exhausted all of my troubleshooting skills. Replaced ECU but it has an ESP malfunction and intermittent brake malfunction warning lamp. When I replaced the ECU, the car idled fine for about 5 minutes and started misfiring again. I don’t have the funds to fix and need the cash to cover other bills. Would like to get 10k for it as it sits or I am parting it out. If people start buying parts off of it I will adjust the listing that the whole car is no longer avail. Will include some Chinese long tube headers, HPA Compkat 3 inch cats, and FTP heat exchanger in asking price. Will potentially trade for a commuter car or pickup truck.

Thanks! Nicest driving car I have ever had, especially after the coilovers. It is a shame it has some weird electrical issues that two shops + I couldn’t figure out.

Most definitely! I know it must be frustrating to have to abort the project. And the shop had no idea either?? Are they using Xentry?

I had it at a Mercedes dealer and got tired of paying more and more for diag charges. Then it went to a smaller shop and the guy had me send the ECU off for testing and it got a clean bill of health. He then said he doesn’t have time to mess with it. I was thinking about having it towed again to Modern Masters in WV but I have over 20k in this thing and need to call it quits instead of dumping more money in to the slot machine. Someone with time and electrical skills could probably get it going again.

Seems like some kind of a short or malfunctioning module because there is intermittent ESP/SBC errors and some of the injectors are circuit high/dumping fuel. Has a TPS code as well.

I might have missed it, but what is the price for the car with everything included as is? I'm in MD. Could possibly tow it back and get it going for the right price. Has a compression and leakdown test been done? If the engine is toast, the value of the car is practically non-existent, unfortunately.

I would like 10k for the car with the extras. It stinks because I have 8k of recent work in it between the suspension, wheels, paint/PDR and the windshield, not to mention all of the parts I have thrown at it trying to fix the misfire. I haven’t tried a gas pedal yet, I may grab one on FCP euro, what is another 200 bucks at this point. I haven’t done a compression test yet but have the tester, just need to make the time. I am 99% sure it is an electrical problem because when I installed the ECU from RaceIQ it ran fine for about 5 minutes and started missing again, however, a compression test is definitely warranted to make sure it isn’t a blown ring or something. The valves looked new when I had the supercharger off FWIW.

Apologies for turning this thread into a diag discussion but I have some questions:

When did the issue start? Was is after some particular maintenance or repair or just started acting up one day? Was this after the new throttle body and injectors...or were these thrown on in an attempt to resolve the underlying issue? There's a very good chance that there is a ground wire or something very simple that's causing these issues. What about the batteries? Are you absolutely sure the batteries are good? Alternator putting out appropriate voltage? Voltage regulator still good (it's a wear item)?

We all know AMGs can be finicky and even the smallest thing can make the car go into fits.

No problem! It started misfiring at 17+% throttle and I babied it home. It then had an ESP error and the SCB light popped on and off intermittently and the fan would kick on high and not crank. I got a used (and flashed) ecu from RaceIQ and put it in the car and it started and idled fine. I let it idle for about 5 mins before taking it for a test drive and it started missing every few seconds, then it got super rough and shut off. I pulled the codes and a couple injector circuit high and a TPS code came on so I put new injectors in, a new TB, and while I had it apart, replaced the valve cover gaskets and resealed the breather covers as the driver’s side was leaking a bit. Put it back together with new gaskets and proper torque specs and it started and misfired again. I think it is something in the harness or electrical system.

Finished compression test and put new battery in. 150+ on all cylinders. Retested 1 and got a better reading.

A tedious task to under take but I have unwrapped all the accessible wiring bundles in the engine compartment, spread out the wires and inspected for insulation defects and heat/melted areas (which was what I found in my old SVX's main harness to its ECU) when I had a similar "WTF" chronic engine problem moment. Hope things work out.
