    • OBO
  • Location Chicago, IL, 60607, USA
  • Condition Used
  • VIN WDBTJ77H98F234434
  • Mileage 50,865
  • Exterior Color Black
Description:

The car is currently listed on eBay. I have lot of recipes in work that I have done to get this car to where it is. I purchased it 2 years ago with a salvaged title and 26,000 miles on her. Since then I have double the miles and in the process I spent over 20 grand to dial her in. This CLK63 drives true and looks amazing. These don't come up for sale very often. In person the car is even more impressive. Price is firm not OBO. I can't edit that in the price drop.

GLWS!

My advice would be to spell out in extreme detail the nature of the accident which led to a salvage title, and the work/parts required/performed to resurrect the vehicle.

Simmelma.......

Great advice! I just recently looked at 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series in Portland Oregon and seller misrepresented condition of vehicle. I spent $1,000 in travel and PPI and the vehicle needed $7,000 in immediate repairs (new tires, rotors/pads, right rear axle, new windshield, 4-wheel alignment just to drive home to California), and an additional $15,000 - $20,000 without a required repainting (front end and entire right side to roof line, replace rear CF diffuser, replace bent right front wheel, tranny service, non-OEM right and left headlights, 4 leaky shock absorbers, upper and lower reseal oil pan gasket, etc.

Unfortunately, I have no pictures or actual details of the accident that occurred. The guy I bought it from was a NY auto dealer who specialized in salvaged cars. He told me he was selling the car for his friend who bought the car from an insurance auction. His buddy replaced the hood, front bumper, left headlight, left fender, never registering the car driving it on a dealer plate. So when I bought the car, the cosmetic damage had been repaired. The paperwork that I got when I bought the car was a nightmare. It came with a NY 907a which is a Salvage certificate. The 907a was still all in handwriting from the initial insurance auction. The process I went through to get this car registered would make for a good movie. I had the car in California for a year and a half. This is where I got the car titled when I bought it. So it had a California salvaged title. I brought the car with me to Chicago over the summer and decided to switch the plates to Illinois and now the car has a rebuilt Illinois title. There are no issues with the paperwork and will register in all 50 states. When I got the car it barely ran. ESP would get triggered, the car would randomly misfire, ac didn’t work. The bumper and hood had terrible paint work but the fender was factory paint and in great shape along with the rest of the cars body. I had the hood and bumper painted. I assumed that the previous guy found a fender that happened to be the same color off another black series. So back to the accident. I can tell that the car had a minor front collision based on the hood/bumper paint and the fact the the oil cooler lines were rerouted, oil cooler brackets were bent along with a disfigured oil cooler, ac condenser would not hold freon because it too was disfigures. Once I inspected further to make repairs it was obvious that the car ran over something that caused these mechanical damages. I have receipts showing everything I replaced. If you have the car inspected it looks clean as can be with no evidence of the accident. I replaced everything the right way. This clk63 has a ton of new parts and has been fully maintained for the past 50% of its mileage. I got the car with 24,000 and have doubled the mileage since. A ton of common issues with these black series has been address such as the expensive in tank fuel pumps. There are a few bs that are under 60 grand and after knowing that these are expensive to fix I would be very wary of its mechanical history. My car has all four true not bent Alcoa wheels. MB sold these cars with mismatched wheels from two different vendors one Alcoa the other OZ racing (another weird BS thing I wouldn’t have known not owning this car). I actually have a second set of factory wheels that can go with the car. Tires and brakes are good and plenty of life but def not new like a good majority of this car. A friend of mine works with carbon fiber so I had him repair the typical cf that cracks on these. The car drives flawless and will impress whoever drives it. If someone is interested I highly recommend getting it inspected. I have over 20 grand in receipts that is all mechanical so I have nothing to hide lol. I wanted this car to be back to new and I accomplished it. This is a unique opportunity that does not happen too often. These are really rare. I have never pulled up to another clk63 in the last 2 years 25,000 miles. The people reactions to this car is like no other factory car I’ve owned. Either they know what it is and are loving the fact that it is actually getting driven and not in some collection or they ask me what body kit I put on this car. Feel free to ask any questions if I missed what you are looking for

I removed the reserve on the eBay listing. This black series should sell in 24 hours. I can’t express enough how lucky the next owner will be. This car won’t depreciate and is so much car for the money.

I did not replace the headbolts. I spent my money on a ton of other priorities to get the car where it is. From what I understand, the head bolt issue has been a threat to all the 63 amg’s Between 08-11. It’s kind of a strange occurrence that has only been documented a handful of cases. Don’t get me wrong those handful are unfortunate cases. It’s an expensive and tricky preventative repair. Some have had terrible results after spending the money with the wrong mechanics. I’ve had a sl63 from that era that was under warranty. I drove that car over 35,000 miles with no issues. In this w209 I contemplated making the upgraded headbolts happen but ultimately decided not to. Being that the clkbs was the first to get this engine it was the first to be recorded. Some owner spend the money for the peace of mind while others take the risk and keep a close eye. They probably feel like if they haven’t failed in the last decade they probably won’t fail. I can see my self spending the money if I decide to keep the car for a long period of time. I really didn’t think I was going to put 25,000 miles on it in two years. I have a lot of other cars but driving this really was the funnest and most practical for me.

The CLK63 is relisted. The previous buyer did not come through with the funds. Here is the new link.

Just googled the VIN and this pic came up from October 2013. Could this be your car OP? Unfortunately the website didn't save the listing details from 2013.

A Google image search of the VIN 'seems' to bring up a photo of the car prior to repair.

*jinx to the poster above me ;-)

I am assuming it is. I posted the original eBay listing in the bs section of this forum hoping someone knew the original story because when I got the car it came already put together with no info from the seller. It’s relisted on EBay with no reserve starting at 40 grand. I will lower the price on this forum to 40 grand firm. Honestly for that price it’s insane to me what one will get. Track a daily driver while enthusiast point you out getting groceries. I’ve never drove next to another bs on the road while I’ve been in this car. It’s really amazing

She is back on eBay. This is a rare opportunity to own a factory wide body black series. I am confident that this car will not depreciate. It is being sold for much less than it is worth. Truly a special car!

Bump...Making this listing relevant again being that this listing does not show up under the vehicle section of this form. Still haven’t figured out why?

Anyways-The eBay listing ends in a little over a day. I can’t stress enough that this is a rare bird that will get sold to the highest bidder. Sales like this one don’t come around very often. Super low production, this car will never depreciate from what it is selling for.

Pending sale. I took a deposit today on the black series. I am pretty confident this car has found its new home. I envy the new owner as this car will be missed.
