Hello All,

Forum newbie here. I recently purchased a pre-owned 2014 GL350 and its a great vehicle. It currently has a Parking assist package with the surround view camera but does not have blind spot assist. I called up the dealer to get an idea on how much it would cost me to add the blind spot assist on my car and they told me that it can not be retrofitted.

I would think with the park assist w surround view package, my GL should already have all the radars/sensors/camera required for blind spot monitoring besides the side mirrors ofcourse .. and some software update to turn the feature on ? I'd like to hear what you all think.

Also, any members have experience with aftermarket blind spot assist on their GL/ML ?

Thank you.

Blind Spot
I can't help you with how to modify you car with Blind Spot assist, but another option , which I added to my 2011 Volvo and 2011 Mini Cooper is the European style mirrors. Basically it is a Convex mirror. All European cars are required to have them on both sides of the car.

I think now that Blind spot assist is standard on most never Mercedes, this meets the requirement for Euro and American models.

With the Convex mirror, you have no blind spot on the drivers side. It is has a vertical line on the other third of the mirror that is wide angle and you see cars that are normally in your blind spot. Not sure how you would find them to fit your Mercedes, but I know they can still be purchased for Mini coopers.

i went to a place in LA that quoted me 4K for the OEM BSA (the triangle) because of the sensors/new mirrors/door control panel/modify command,etc.. they also offered a after market model for 800 for the 2014 W166

i gave up on adding it.. and i have parktronic too (not the SVC though) the W212 i had before i didnt really need it, the mirror is very wide and the rear view mirror is wide enough that you dont really need it. Used ML CPO's the base models have it, odd that mine doesnt (see my signature)

Euro convex mirror
Deadhear 314 - I just went to Ebay UK and found the mirror I mentioned earlier. It is the european model and has the split i.e. dividing line that gives you a wider view of what is coming up on you. I would have given you the link but don't know how to do it. I think it was about 38 british lbs. worth a try if it keep you from running into someone. This is the same type I have on my cars.

2011 GL450 with aftermarket BSA & OEM Mirrors
I just installed my Blind Spot Assist for $1200 on my 2011 GL450 and used OEM mirrors with to get it done, same exact function less the yellow light during the first 20mph. works perfect.
