do I need to disconnect my battery when my driver's seat cover is repaired?

2012 M350 Bluetec with a worn out seat cover. The upholster says the battery has to be disconnected to disable the air bags. I will lose all of my settings. Is there any other ways to disable the airbags? Thanks, TedM
