Changing out the Seat Belts

My car is planned to have the black seat belts when it arrives in late October, but I would love to get some blue seat belts because I love blue. Does Mercedes use their own belts, or do they get generic belts that are easy to source? Would it be a bad idea to change the belts to a non-Mercedes set? It technically shouldn't affect the effects of the belt if all I change out are the belt itself, right? Is there a preferred brand for standard seat belts?

On another note, I have the performance seats checked on the option sheet, and I was wondering, how do you install the 3 point harness? Are the aluminum inserts just for decoration? I would like to know for future reference. Thanks guys!

1) Modifying OEM seat belts in ANY way is illegal in the USA and probably other nations.
2) No one will sell you blue seat belts that will replace your OEM seatbelts.
3) No one will install this non-existent product unless they take cash only...
4) Manufacturers source these parts from OEM's and go through very long, rigorous testing and qualification processes. You'd be surprised at the testing/bureaucracy of going from black to red seat belts.

So, you're not going to get blue seat belts unless you paint/dye the yourself. And then you're breaking federal law so... good luck!

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. Looks like I'm sticking to black.

Does it have to be blue? I have ordered my car with red seatbelts. Mercedes also do grey belts but these might be model/country specific.

Cut your seat belts and take your car to body shop. Tell them your kids played with scissors inside your car and did that damage. You must have new seat belts. They will give you some seat belts to choose.
You may not modify your seat belts but it's easy to walk around and replace them.
Good luck to find Blue seat belts.

That makes sense, but I'll probably ask around before cutting my belts, especially if it'll make my drive over there risky.

As for why blue, it's simply because I like the color blue. For some reason, my C63s build has black belts despite having the silver accent seats. It was far too late to change back to silver when I noticed.

You may not have to cut your seat belts. Ask them first. Cannot modify does not mean cannot replace.
