"we are 3 to 5 tenth behind renault"- haug
Important home race for Mercedes
Don't count McLaren Mercedes out of the running for Sunday's European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. That is the assertion of Mercedes' competition chief Norbert Haug, speaking in the days prior to one of two home races for the German manufacturer.
Haug admitted to Germany's sid agency, however, that the MP4-21 package is not quite on the pace of the dominant blue and yellow Renaults.
"We are three to five tenths of a second behind," said the German, "but no team has been more reliable than us in the first four races of this year."
Haug also insisted that Kimi Raikkonen's title fight with Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher is not yet over.
"Last year, Kimi was 31 points behind after four races, and this time only 18," he explained.
