Porsche will give F1 another try in 2005

I just read in Autoweek that Porsche will be returning to F1 and they will make it their motorsport of choice. Porsche also is building a 4km FIA certified F1 circuit next to their new facility on Lepzig. The track is supposed to have features of all the current F1 circuits and will serve as a test track.

Interesting. Sort of wondered what the Porshce engineer guys would be doing now that the Audi LeMans program is over. I was figuring that they would return to LeMans - as that has always been their forte. Guess the VW management threw everyone a curveball when they insisted that they weren't going F1 racing (just not as VW). Hopefully Porsche does a lot better than their last F1 attempt.

Cheers, BT

Hmmmm. Porsche hops into and out of F1 more often than Alex Yoong drives into sand traps...

What, exactly, is the relationship between Porsche and VW?

There is no relationship between Porsche and VW, They don't even like each other. There used to be a marketing agreement between Audi and Porsche, but that ended years ago.

Maybe Porsche will built engines for Arrows and get sponsorship from Footwork

Although Porsche is still an independent company, it still maintains pretty close ties to VW, the new Porsche Cayenne SUV will also be available as the VW Colorado, albeit with completely different motors (hopefully it does a little better than some of their other team-up projects, such as the 914 ). A number of Porsche's racing staff were involved with Audi's R8 LeMans program (pretty much why there haven't been any Porsche prototypes the last few years). F1 racing is so expenisive, I don't think that Porsche could go it alone without some help from a larger company (most likely to be VW).

Cheers, BT
