2002 Clk Dtm
I posted this in the another forum a while back, but thought it probably belonged here as well:
It's a picture of the new 2002 DTM CLK. What excites me is that this car may also be run in the ALMS-GT category (as I had feverishly hoped), so we'll have a chance to check it out and root for it here in the States. Both versions will be powered by 4.0L 460hp V8s. By the way racing in the ALMS may mean that there will be a road-going 400hp version of the CLK-GT available to the public, as to race in this category requires a "production" run. BMW is currently in trouble with this rule because they've been racing a V8 M3 - although no such version exists. On a side note I've always felt this M3 looked like it belonged in the current DTM series - I wonder why BMW isn't racing it in there, especially as it would make sense from a marketing point of view?
I think the car in the picture is still somewhat in disguise as the look for the new CLKs has yet to be officially unveiled. The rumor is the front end will look more like the CL (seperated headlights) and less like the C to enforce it's more upmarket niche.
Looking forward to the 2002 racing season.
Cheers, BT

I just read today that BMW is bailing on the ALMS because of the rule enforcement, they decided that they couldn't go back to the straight-6 motors because they weren't powerful enough. Hopefully, MB will decide to step in to try and beat Porsche, otherwise the GT category won't be as exciting this year.
