Saw today that MB is going to build a customer engine for the German F3 series. The motor will be a four-banger based on the new 1.8 L engines - don't know if it will be a direct injection motor (I'd imagine that tech is illegal for cost reasons). I'm somewhat surprised they announced this, they'll face pretty stiff competition from the motor companies already present in the series (Opel, Mugen, etc.); but I guess since MB sells 40% of their cars in Germany it makes sense from a marketing point of view, plus it's way cheaper than a LeMans program.
