P0170 / P0173 - only one code and bank definition

Yes, I have searched the archives on this topic that seem all too prevalant in realtion to our cars.

Two questions :

(1) My car consistently give code P0173 (fuel trim malfunction left cylinder bank) - which bank is this - driver's side or passenger's side?

(2) Since I only get this code and not the corresponding code for the right cylinder bank, I am assuming that it is unlikely to be the common Mass air-flow sensor issue since this should result in both P0170 and P0173 codes. My guess is that it is most likely an oxygen sensor issue. Is this a fair assumption?

Sincerely,

Bill N.

1)left bank is the drivers side 2)Even though it's only registering 1 bank is out of spec-it could still be a MAF sensor. The other bank is probably very close to being out too.

Merecedestech was correct on mine. Replaced MAF a few hours ago and test drive 50 miles. No MIL since then.

For what it is worth, the code on mine started as P0170 and eventually became both P0170 and P0173.

Help with Codes

OK. Check engine light came on and so I went to AutoZone. They pulled the following codes P0170 ,P0173 and P0161 all of which they told me were O2 sensors. Now I don't believe in all going faulty at once so could it be the MAF?
My car runs very well accelerates great etc. so is it the MAF or sensors?

GrantWinTX -

My car ran fine also with the faulty MAF. It just threw codes every day despite my reseting them every trip to work.

I did not receive the P0161 code though. My layman's opinion (spending your money) would be to replace the MAF, reset MIL, and see where that gets you. If you do it yourself, it can be done for under $260.

Mass Air Meters

Today is the 16th of May, one day left at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:BN:MT:1
This guy has 10 new MAS at $145, plus $13 S/H. (I hope I'm not screwing up my bid!) The MB part No. is 112 094 00 48, the same number the MAS has in our '98 E320.
