250S Torque Converter?

An oldie but a goodie - 1967 250S. Hasn't run in about 10 years. The engine is running - compression a little low in one cylinder and vacuum at ~15" Hg. The biggest problem is the trans. When you put it in gear -forward or reverse - the vehicle lurches and the engine dies. Feels like the torque converter is locked up. (Probably unrelated, but it will start in any selector position - a neutral safety switch adjustment?)
Before I pull it apart, does anyone have any suggestions?
Also - anyone know the best source of info for these older ones? A website, car club or even an individual that specalizes in "the classics"?
Thanks

TRy on Mercedesshop.

There is a solenoid on top of the trans that may need to be adjusted.

There are some very knowledgable people on the vintage forum.

250S - thanks

Thanks - I'll check it out the web site. Found a terminal block on the side of the trans and the wires disappear up to the top - to the solenoid? Looks hard to get at. Could be no electrical signal. Any idea what triggers the solenoid?
Thanks again.

It could be related to the microswitch on the carb. It reduces the downshift clunking when slowing to a stop.
