95 SL500 Top won't close all the way. Please Help.

Purchased the wife a very nice 95 SL500. She/we love it. Ever since I saw how the top operated I was concerned. Not so much this car but the dynamics as a whole. I race corvettes and have learned the hard way that options and fancy things are all bad news in the long run. This car has like 48k on it and, other than the top, is in excellent condition.
The problem started last night. She showed up down at the boat and informed me that her drivers side window would not go up. Well we stayed on the water last night and after getting home this morning she put it in park and hit the red button. it almost completed its cycle, but tstopped with the top about 8 inches from the lock in holes. She looked in the manual and used the tool to get it the rest of the way closed. But the left rear did not lock down in place.

I just got to the office and have not messed with it much. What can I check for? Do you feel the window not fully working last night and the top not closing this morning are related?

I would appreciate any help I can get on this one and would be happy to return the favor with any knowledge on how to set up a C5 or C6 for racing.

Matt

it could be a fuse, if the window will not move then it might be a fuse, try to move the seats when the door is closed, and then when it is open. if it turns out that it is not a fuse, take it to a trusted Mb machanic, otherwise you might get ripped off. chances are that it is a very small thing,

Hi, Matt.

Check the owner's manual; MBZ auto windows (and sunroofs) occasionally need to be reset and there is a specific procedure for it. Given that I'll bet there is a procedure for resetting the top as well. Usually that only happens after a power failure (like disconnecting the battery) but I've heard it can happen all on it's own. Goofy, but hey, it's those bells 'n whistles blues.

Hope it's simple!

1991 500SL Window won't go all the way up

Hi, I purchased my '91 500 SL last weekend (with the hard top not opperating, but that's an issue for later), but the passenger window won't go all the way up. It goes down no problem, but on its way up it stops 2 inches from the top!

I've read through many posts (and learn't a lot ), but can't find someone with a similar issue. I've also printed off the SL manual, but can't see how to synchronise the windows - but may be this isn't the solution anyway??

Someone helped gently pull the window up the last 2 inches (whilst i pressed the up button), but i don't want to keep doing that in case i break it!

Can anyone help?
Kind regards, Alex
