S320 Door noise

S320 Door noise
I have a '96 S320, when the drivers door is opened it makes a snapping or clicking type noise. Looking at a parts diagram it looks like there is some sort of Plate or something in the door panal that may have something to do with it. My quess just worn out catch or something. Before digging into it do you think this is the problem or is it something else? Thanks

You may not need to replace the door check-there are two 10mm bolts holding the check to the door-it is VERY common for these bolts to loosen up over time. Open the door all the way, look in the corner of the door-where the hinge meets the body,about halfway up the door you will see the door check strap-there is one bolt above and one bolt below this strap. Good luck

Second that. Same exact thing happened with the SL, had that clicking sound when the door was opened. A quick inspection revealed the bolts had worked their way out a bit, maybe several turns, but enough for the check assembly to click. Just tighten it.

mercedesteck1 & joshua I have to thank you for your info, it was right on the money. One bolt was almost ready to fall out. I mad the mistake of removing it to find the wrench size. Whatever is behind there fell out of place . I was still able to tighten the other to the point the noise stopped. Again thank you for your info.
