Question ABS/BAS Trouble Codes

The ABS/BAS malfunction trouble codes keep popping up on my 99 E320 4Matic wagon. My dealer has tried a number of things to resolve the issue, but keeps running into a dead end. He's given the car a couple of alignments, replaced brake sensors, etc, but it keeps happening. I haven't really been able to figure out what triggers the problem - sometimes it happens as soon as I put the car in reverse to back out of the driveway, sometimes it happens when I pull away from a stop sign, other times it happens when I'm simply driving down the road. I have noticed that it happens more frequently when the roads are snowy than it does on dry pavement.

The first time I brought the car in for this issue, it had the following codes: C1201, C1140, and C1504. The most recent time I brought the car in, the technician said that there weren't any trouble codes stored eventhough the error popped up the day before.

Any ideas what's going on? Is there something in particular I should have them look for? Of course, no matter how long they take the car out for a test drive, the error never happens for the dealer.

I've been reading about similar problems other people on the forum have had. I believe that my dealer has already replaced the brake switches. I still have the stock rims on the car and the same size tires. Anyway, I've forwarded a bunch of suggestions to my technician. I'll report back if/when this all gets resolved...

In the mean time, please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

im not sure if this will help...last year i had the same thing happen to me on my clk430..dealer replaced switch and fuse and that took care of it..knock on wood..lol...but i noticed that they did change the switch for you..hmmm..i hope everything works out for you coz my stepbro has a 2000 E320 and he said he has a lot of electrical problems on his..im thinking he got a lemon....anyway, i hope you get that fixed and drive safely when that thing lights up..

Bad or intermittent brake light switch is usually, but not always the cause of this. If so its an inexpensive quick fix.

Yup, that seems to be the most common cause people on the forums report, but my technician already swapped in a new sensor once and that didn't solve the problem.

It's NOT a sensor but a brake light switch under the dash.

Sorry, that's what I meant - they replaced the switch. I read so many posts about switches and sensors that I typed the wrong thing...
