Does my roof motor buzz?
I have a '96 E320. There is a buzzing (or small motor whirling) sound coming from the interior lights. It happened a while ago and went away, I think when the temperature changed. Anyway it came back. If I remember from last time when I took out the light bulbs I still heard it. I assume it is the sun roof motor behind the lights? Can anyone confirm that? I hear the noise even after the key in the ignition is removed for an extra ten seconds. How do I fix the buzzing or troubleshoot it to find out what is going on? Thanks.

In the overhead control panel there should be an in car temp sensor. For this temp sensor to work it has an aspirator motor. Essentially a small fan that can make some noise. Look at the control panel, there should be a portion that has slits cut in it. Listen at that point and that may lead you in the right direction.

Thank you very much. That was the exact problem. The bearings on the little fan motor were making noise. I had to remove the whole control panel assembly and then remove the motor. Las Vegas Fletcher Jones Mercedes cost me $100.99 for the little freakin part that couldn't cost half that. I'm feelin pretty screwed in the wallet.
