CDI question...
IS the CDI a direct injection diesel or indirect injection?
I ask because I like to use Techron (from Chevron) on my cars to keep the injection clean, and they (chevron) say it's ok to use with indirect injection diesel cars like Mercedes Benz.
I called a few places to ask if Techron was ok to use in the CDI's and got 5 different answers from 5 different sources..
Nobody seems to understand the CDI technology here in the US.

If you wonder if a CDI is indirect injection....
You must not realize CDI is an acronym....
for "Common-Rail Direct Injection"
Is Techron suitable for use in a CDI, I don't know, but the CDI is certainly a direct-injection diesel. I'm pretty sure MB discourages all additives; check your manual.

yeah MB (like every other manufacturer) does not recommend any additives, but then, MB doesn't have to worry about the car after 50,000 on the odo.. I do. Techron is not snake oil.. but I just wanted to see if it was suitable for direct injection (as this car appears to be). Any Fuel Injection wizards out there?

I read the Chevron / Techron data and quote "This product can be used with diesel fuel in light duty indirect-injected diesel engines." By 'indirect', I believe that Chevron is distinguishing between common-rail (your CDI) and unit pump and all other diesel fuel systems. This is not a subtle disctinction. The high pressure pump and unit injectors that your system uses are significantly different in design and technology than say an in-line or rotary diesel fuel injection pump which utilizes a significantly different injector.
Critical to diesel fuel and systems is the lubricity of the fuel - and clearly Techron will compromise that lubricity. I would go by Chevron's own advisement that their Techron product is not compatible with a High Pressure Common-Rail (CDI) fuel system.

Lubrication and Cleaning
I use Howes Lubricator. It is used by most truck guys, many with CDI systems so I think it is okay. Their website is...Howeslube.com. You can call them and they are very good about answering questions.
