AFAIK Comfort does the same as winter... it starts rolling on 2nd, and it lowers the rpm shift points. When you think about it, driving like that gives you a smoother ride (comfort), but it also helps with traction on the snow (winter).

I've always used 'W' or 'C' on all my Mercs, all year round, and never had a problem. I prefer the more comfortable ride. If I wanted to be bumped around I would have kept my TVR

I've heard some say that the comfort modes stress the tranny more, but I've yet to hear of a failure that was caused by this, and note that the manuals don't have any warning about extended use in dry conditions, which you can be sure they would if there was any risk whatsoever, even if just from a liability perspective.

Yeah, if MB doesn't think you should use something for an extended period, then it will revert back after a while... like the rear defroster, the air recirculation business on the AC, the "butt burning mode" with the heated seats, etc. Everything that has an "ON" mode that's not supposed to be that way forever will eventually turn itself off... since Winter mode doesn't, I'm guessing it's safe to assume you can leave it like that for as long as you want...

One further note is that now they're labelled Sport/Comfort, you can't possibly be doing the wrong thing by keeping it on Comfort. Running in Winter mode in Summer could be construed as perverse, but I'm supposed to be UnComfortable in Summer?
