I hooked my car to a hand held diagnostic tool at my son's work . It gave code P0411 - Secondary Air Injection System ... Incorrect Flow. Does anyone know what this meens??? My guess is eather the Mass Air Flow or the O2 cencor are not working right.

computer codes

I had the same thing happen to me the other day. CE lite comes on. I go to advance auto and they hook me up. I had 3 codes come up P0105, P1519, P12235. Mass sensor and something else I would expect. I know one of the guys here is real good on this board. He helped me out once before on a code that came up egr. It was a hose with some contamination that was it. Hope your reading this cause we really need your help. Thanks to all.

If you have a code for secondary air injection it has to do with the air pump system that pumps outside air into the exhaust to cause the catalytic converters burn hotter. This is active when you first start the car since the cats are cold and cannot do their job until they are hot. Replacing the mass airflow sensor will not do anything for this code. You have to see if they air pump is working or if the line is clogged, etc.

It is much easier for us in the shop because with the equipment we have, we can activate the pump to see if it works and there are tests we can perform that will tell if the pump is working efficiently enough. You might want to look and see if the relay is bad for the air pump. Take it out and smell it to see if it smells burnt. I dont have any pictures to show you anything really to look for so not much help there. Without diagnostic tools it makes it much harder. One other thing you can do is, when you first start the car, the pump should be active if the car is cold. Open the hood and see if its running. It will be run but the accessory drive belt so that should help you find it. It will have a clutch like an AC compressor which will be spinning if its active. This should at least lead you in the direction you need to go. If its running, its more likely the line is leaking or clogged coming off it. If its not running, its more likely the relay, the pump itself or something aling those lines.

I'm still having issues with the secondary air flow code. I reset the light and it will stay off for several weeks but sometimes comes back on within a few days. This leads me to think it is an intermittent problem. There is an electrical air pump (I think) that has a hose going to the EGR. Is this the pump you had talked about? The part number is 000 140 3585. If that’s not it I’m still not sure what to look for.
You also talked about checking a relay….where would that be located?

Bump. Still looking for some help here. Oe this that seems odd from the advise above about being on at start up. Sometimes after clearing the codes the code will throw again but the car is warm. Like driving dow the freeway and pop the light comes on.So if it the pump runs to help it heat up this doesn't make since to me.
Any help to cure this short of replacing the pump ( due to cost) would be awesome. It seems that the pump is working since It doesn't trigger the code the next day when it's cold again etc.
