MAF question!!

Is it possible to drive with the MAF unplugged as a means to test whether or not your MAF needs to be replaced or would that lead to all manner of problems?

Also, is it possible to clean the MAF as opposed to replace it?

Thanks guys.

Driving w/o the MAF plugged in is possible. Cleaning the MAF, if successful, will only change your adaptation values just enough to get rid of your CEL. It still won't work to specs and WILL eventually fail again. In the meantine, you will not have your CEL on, but will probably burn more $ in gas than you would have to. Unfortunately, the dealership asks for a crazy amount of money to replace this item. Thankfully, there are many online vendors you can purchase the item for, for considerably less. I got 2 new ones on ebay for $100 each. One in my car, and one for safe keeping.

The CEL light is not actually on in my car but the idle is sometimes a bit rough, so I thought that this would be the best place to start, but I think I would be better off just leaving it alone. Will have to see what other probable causes could be first I suppose.

Thanks for the reply

LOL....ok...so no CEL. Well, if your idle is rough, you might want to check out your motor mounts and maybe even your spark plugs.
