Question '98 C280 cruise control stopped working completely 2 wks ago. Need advice on fix...

I am also having a problem with my cruise control.
This is on a '98 C280 with stock 15" wheels.

It stopped working two weeks ago. It simply will not
engage at any speed.

Everthing on the car is stock. The tires are identical
and only have about 3000 miles on them. The tire
pressure are all exactly what the MB specifies on the
gas flas sticker.

I would like to know if there's a fuse for the cruise
control. It's not listed on the paper under the fusebox
cover in the engine compartment. There's another panel
behind the fusebox screwed with 4 screws. Is that where
the fuse is?

Also checked the brake pedal switch and brake lights and
they are all functioning normally.

Or, are there other parts that I should be checking?

Don't really want to go to the stealership and spend $1000
on something that I can do myself...

Thanks for any advice!
