Question Spark plug question

For all of you who know engines better than I do, I have a question. I changed my plugs today and on cylinder #1 I had oil on the threads and sitting down in the area where the plug goes in. There was not any oil on the electrode of the plug, and the rest of the cylinders were dry. It is an '02 coupe with the M111 engine and I was hoping for some insight. Outland? Anyone?

Thanks....

Well, it appears that my thread was moved out of the W203 forum, so I am going to bump it so it can be seen.

Lexus
Not sure about your engine design but usually its the valve cover seal leaking oil down into the spark plug hole. Overhead cam engines usually have a O-ring type gasket for each spark plug. If it leaks too much it will cause a misfire.

Hit the nail on the head.

Not a do it yourself job, special tool required as they are almost pressed in and out.

Have you tried tightening the valve cover? Be careful.

The plug change, or the seals?

No, I have not messed with that and I don't think that I will. I will take it in for a check.
